Equipment Guidelines, Club‑Loaned Gear & Locker Rentals at NCF Boulder
Everything you need to know about clothing, storage, and repairs
At NCF Boulder, proper equipment is essential for safety, performance, and maintaining a professional training environment. To make things easy, we provide all Kinderfechten, Youth, and Beginner fencers with the gear they need — plus a system to keep it in good condition.
Training Attire
Required: athletic shoes (indoor use only) and knickers with socks.
Allowed: leggings or sweatpants, but only if worn under knickers.
Not allowed: shorts, jeans, khakis, slacks, or non‑athletic footwear.
We provide knickers and shoes if you don’t yet have your own. Please do not share equipment between fencers.
Gear Provided with Membership
Your program membership includes the use of the following for both training and competitions:
Mask
Jacket
Plastron
Chest Protector
Glove
Body Wire
Weapons
When it’s time to buy your own gear, our coaches will guide you through trusted suppliers. If you leave or graduate from the program, please return all club‑loaned equipment.
Club‑Loaned Gear: Storage and Care
Each youth and beginner fencer is assigned a fencing jacket and knickers. Please follow these steps:
Label Your Gear
Use a colored tag on a coat hanger with your name.
Store It Properly
Hang on the appropriate rack in the boys’ or girls’ locker room.
Laundry Routine
Place in the laundry pile after 2–3 practices or when visibly soiled.
Clean gear will be returned to the rack near the weapons area (to the left of the armory) for pickup.
Repairs
If something breaks (club or personal gear), grab a RED repair tag from the armory.
Fill it out with your name, date, and the issue.
Attach the tag with the pipe cleaner and place the item on the armory workbench.
The clearer your note, the faster we can fix it.
Locker Rentals
Lockers are available to rent at:
$25 per month
$275 per year
Please use your own lock.
To keep space open for everyone, leave large rollbags at home. Bring only what you need in a smaller bag, and use the shared shelves or hanging racks for day‑to‑day storage.
FAQ
Q: Can my child wear just leggings or sweatpants without knickers?
A: No. Knickers are required over the top for safety and compliance.
Q: What if my child forgets their gear?
A: Loaner equipment is provided, but fencers should use their assigned, labeled gear whenever possible.
Q: How often should gear be laundered?
A: Every 2–3 practices, or sooner if visibly soiled.
Q: What if my child’s gear gets damaged?
A: Use a red repair tag and leave it on the armory workbench. Do not continue fencing with broken gear.
Q: Can we share locker space or gear with another family?
A: No. Each fencer should use their own locker and assigned gear to ensure safety and accountability.
Q: Who do I contact with questions about gear, lockers, or repairs?
A: Speak with a coach or email ncfboulder@gmail.com.
