    • Coaches will have basic armoring supplies for minor repairs.

    • A limited supply of basic first aid items (tape, bandages) will be available.

    Competition Expectations

Tournament days can be long and unpredictable, particularly for newer fencers. Scheduling delays, equipment issues, and variations in performance are a normal part of competition and not signs that something has gone wrong.

At NCF Boulder, competition is treated as an extension of training-the same skills practiced in the club, applied in a different environment. Tournaments add constraints such as unfamiliar opponents, time pressure, noise, fatigue, and uncertainty. Learning to manage those conditions is part of the training process.

Success is measured not only by results, but by preparation, decision-making, focus, and composure under pressure. Parents’ support in helping fencers stay organized, rested, and calm plays a meaningful role in reinforcing those skills.

    What to Wear / Changing

    • There are limited changing facilities and options at the venue.

    • Fencers should arrive already wearing fencing knickers and socks, with other clothing worn over them as needed..

    • Knickers should be worn properly during fencing and not over sweatpants.

This helps reduce congestion and keeps the event running on schedule.

    Fencers Entered in Two Events

    • Events are scheduled so they should not overlap.

    • Fencers entered in two events are expected to remain at the venue for both events.

    • Do not leave the venue between events.

    • If food or supplies are needed, a parent or adult should bring them.

    • If a fencer must leave for any reason, a coach must be informed beforehand.

    Day-Of Communication

If issues arise on the morning of the event (equipment problems, delays, etc.), please stay in contact.
