Getting started

If you are a new student under 13 years old the easiest thing for you to do is to sign up for a youth class. These are held Tuesday to Thursday from 4:00pm to 5:15pm.

If you are a new student thirteen years or older or a more physically advanced 12 year old, then sign up for the 6:30pm session Tuesday to Thursday. The session is scheduled until 9pm, but new fencers are not expected or required to stay for the whole session.. In each group, you will get some basic training and a chance to fence a few people and see if this a sport you want to continue with.

If you would prefer to meet privately with a coach or you cannot  make one of the group classes, sign up for a trial private lesson. These are half hour times in our scheduler that are labeled “Private”. Pick the one that best fits your time.

In every instance, we will have all the equipment you will need. Just wear clothes you can sweat in and tennis type shoes.

Discount

There is a discount fee for fencers that are training a two times a week or more and need a similar level of lessons. We aim for dedicated and skilled students. If this is your goal also, we can help with teaching and lesson costs. Please talk to a coach about this and whether or not it would fit your needs.

Private Lessons

The fencing groups have a brief warm up and instruction period, that would be appropriate for a person just starting out in the sport. It will give you very basic skills.

If you want to go beyond this and  start winning the bouts you are currently losing, then take lessons.

Lessons are scheduled in half hour blocks of time and our scheduler has them listed as private. These are just considered as a “punch” on your punchcard. How many or how often do you take lessons depends really on how good do you want to be. Fencing takes time to learn, there a ridiculous number of ways to lose a bout and not losing them requires a lot of skills learned in lessons and then time to learn how and when to use those skills against the opponent. So this is an ask a coach question. There are many variables that determines an answer.

Fees

We bill our lessons and group classes with a punchcard. The punchcard is $240 and is good for six sessions. A lesson or a group is considered as a punch.

Group Class

The whole point of fencing is competing with an opponent, be it in a club’s training time or in a designated competition. Each group has the same format, a brief warmup up and training drill and then start fencing people. You may ask anyone to fence, you may say no, if you are asked. There will be a wide range of skills to interact with especially the older age group. We provide fencing equipment until you decide you want your own.
